If you have half a day for a trip from Prague, here are our suggestions:
Konopiste castle: an insight into the life of the Czech nobility, very interesting interiors.
Terezin memorial: former concentration camp of Jews during the World War II.
Konepruske caves: a 400-million-year-old calcite rocks, opened to public in 1959.
Karlstejn castle: majestic seat of Charles IV from the 14th century.
Kutna Hora: cosy medieval town famous for its silver mines, royal mint, cathedral of St. Barbara and bone church.
For a whole day excursion we recommend:
Karlovy Vary: famous spa town, where you can taste the curative mineral springs and visit the Becherovka liquor factory.
Cesky Krumlov (UNESCO): a fairy-tale town with splendid castle.
Trebic (UNESCO): a town, where you can feel the Jewish spirit in the intact medieval ghetto and visit breath-taking basilica of St. Procopius.
For hiking, try our personal tips:
Bohemian Switzerland: dramatic rocks, sharp gorges, mystic green forests and many surprising sceneries.
Giant Mountains (Krkonose): our highest mountains on the border with Poland.
Orlicke Mountains: in this Czech borderland, the natural beauties blend together with a modern history: on your walk you will find several deserted bunkers from the 1930`s. However, some of them became a place of interesting military exhibition (namely Hanicka, Bouda etc.).
Interesting cities in neighbor countries for a whole day trip:
Dresden: romantic city on the Elbe river will conquer you by the splendid architecture. You will not believe it was a ruin several decades ago. Great place for lovers of art as well as for lovers of shopping.
Nuremberg
Vienna: elegant capital of Austria with many museums, galleries and caffee shops.
Bratislava: small but lovely capital of Slovakia.
